ATTORNEY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY Solicitation for Volunteers to Participate in Local Rules Committee

Wednesday, February 16, 2022

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas is seeking volunteer attorneys to serve on its Local Bankruptcy Rules Committee (“committee”).

The committee, chaired by Chief Bankruptcy Judge Craig A. Gargotta, is tasked with reviewing the court’s local rules and standing orders and proposing revisions for judicial review.  The committee is expected to begin its work in late-March 2022 and will operate for several months.  Committee meetings will generally take place via video or teleconference but may include in-person meetings.  Travel will not be required.

Attorneys from all divisions are encouraged to apply.  Self-nominations are permitted, as are nominations from another lawyer or bar association.  Committee membership must be limited, however, to keep it manageable.  The bankruptcy judges will make the final selection and will strive to assemble a committee comprised of members from each division that represent the various types of bankruptcy litigants appearing before the court, which includes a selection of business, consumer, creditor, debtor, trustee, and government attorneys.  Members should be willing to confer with- and represent their non-member colleagues throughout the local rule revision process.

If you have any questions, or if you are interested in volunteering to serve on the Local Bankruptcy Rules Committee, please send an email to rules@txwb.uscourts.gov no later than March 18, 2022
