Selection of Bankruptcy Judge - Western District of Texas
The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has selected Michael M. Parker as the next bankruptcy judge in the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division. Mr. Parker is a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright and has been with the firm since the end of his two-year bankruptcy clerkship with this court in 1995. Mr. Parker has worked as lead or co-counsel representing debtors, secured creditors, unsecured creditors, and trustees all over Texas and beyond. He has also represented buyers of assets in large chapter 11 cases who are not creditors.
Mr. Parker has four degrees (B.S. in engineering from the University of Colorado; M.S. in engineering, M.B.A., and J.D. from U.T. Austin). He is Board Certified in both Business Bankruptcy Law and Consumer Bankruptcy Law. He was president of the San Antonio Bankruptcy Bar Association from 1999 until 2001. He is currently the chairman of the Bankruptcy Subcommittee of the Federal Courts Committee of the San Antonio Bar Association. He was the founder of the Central Texas Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and served as its president from 2001 – 2007.
Mr. Parker is also currently the vice chairman of the San Antonio Legal Services Association (SALSA), a pro bono service organization that provides volunteer attorney free legal services to those with limited means. He has been active in SALSA and its predecessor for many years and volunteered his time on numerous occasions to represent clients pro bono, including representing a debtor pro bono in a chapter 12 case.
Mr. Parker was one of the founders and is the current president (2020 – 2022) of the Honorable Larry E. Kelly Bankruptcy Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
